Our Review of the Sprint Racer 1 Indoor CycleHow Easy is the Indoor Cycle to Build? The Sprint Racer 1 indoor cycle is very easy to build. Attach the stabilisers at the front and rear of the bike, drop in the seat and handlebars, attach the pedals and console and you're ready to ride. Takes about 15 minutes in total. What are the first impressions? This bike is based on the excellent commercial grade Sprint Racer 2. It has many of the same features and shares the excellent build quality, so as you'd expect the ride is superb: - Adjustability of the seat and handlebars (both horizontally and vertically) is very easy to do so that you can achieve your optimum position - The bike is easy to move because of the transport wheels on the front stabiliser bar, so you can move it out of the way when you've finished using it - 20kg flywheel is a great size for this price of bike - Belt drive so there's no real maintenance on this bike - Console gives good feedback when cyclingWhat's it like to ride? Very good. Smooth pedalling action and sturdy frame give you confidence to increase the resistance and work hard: - Because of the belt drive the ride is very quiet and very smooth - The friction resistance works extremely well which enables you to make the workout as easy or hard as you like, and of course you can vary this resistance during your workout by turning the adjuster knob as you cycle. - Not quite as many handgrip positions as we'd like - The console shows good information including speed, distance, time and calories burnedAny niggles? It would be nice to have SDP compatible pedals and more handgrip positions but being realistic, for the price, this is probably asking too much.Anything else to add? This is an indoor cycle that's very easy to live with. There's no routine maintenance, other than keeping the bike clean. If the drive belt needs adjusting then it's very easy to do but it's something that you won't need to do very often.Overall Impression? It's by far and away the best budget spin bike that we've seen. Excellent features and build quality.
Do you have a question about the Sprint Racer 1 Indoor Cycle?
If you can't find the answer that you're looking for below then please click here and ask us a question. If we're online we'll give you an answer immediately, otherwise we'll try our best to respond on the same working day.
Cycle Specific Questions Q. What the minimum/maximum recommended user height for this bike? A. This indoor cycle can be used by anyone from 5ft3 (160cm) to 6ft6 (198cm). This is because the position of the seat and handlebars can be adjusted horizontally and vertically, so most people can find a comfortable position.
Q. Can the seat be swapped for a normal bike seat? A. Yes. It's a standard bike seat fitting so you can attach a different seat if you want to.
Q. I'm looking at a different bike at the same price but it's a chain drive. What's best? A. You're always better choosing a belt drive bike unless you specifically want the feel of the chain - there's less maintenance and generally belt drive bikes last longer.
Q. What's the size of the flywheel? A. The Sprint Racer 1 has a 20kg flywheel which ensures a smooth pedalling action.
Q. I'm 15st - is this bike suitable? A. Yes. The maximum user weight on this bike is 110kg.
Q. Do the pedals take SPD cleats? A. No - this is an optional extra.
Q. Can I use my heart rate belt with this bike? A. Yes.
General Questions Q. Is this bike difficult to assemble? A. No - instructions are included and we cover the build in our review of the bike as well. Just pay particular attention to attaching the pedals correctly.
Q. Can you assemble the bike for me? A. Yes. We can deliver the bike fully assembled. We will pack/wrap the bike for transportation but can't accept liability for any damage that is caused whilst the bike is in transit. Alternatively, we can arrange for a technician to visit your home to build the bike for you at an additional cost (please ask for current prices).
Q. Do I need a mat underneath the bike? A. We recommend that you have a mat underneath your indoor cycle to protect the floor but it's entirely up to you.
Q. Do you sell second hand or refurbished bikes? A. Generally not. Unfortunately it's not cost effective for us to refurbish indoor cycles to a standard that would be in keeping with our reputation. To fully refurbish an indoor cycle, the crank; crank arms; flywheel bearings; drive belt; pedals; seat and handlebars all need to be replaced. In addition, the frame needs to be checked for corrosion and distortion. In doing this work to the correct standard, the price of a fully refurbished indoor bike would be about the same as a new one. It's for this reason that we don't normally offer refurbished or second hand bikes for sale, and we strongly recommend that you fully understand how a bike has been refurbished before buying one.
