Our Review of the Gym Gear M.Sport Plus Magnetic Indoor CycleHow Easy is the Indoor Cycle to Build? Extremely simple to build. Attach the front and rear stabilisers, seat, handlebars and console and you're ready to ride. What are the first impressions? The look of the bike tends to polarise opinion - we've given this bike the nickname of "Marmite" because of the reaction that it gets. We really like the design of the bike because it stands out from the crowd. However, from a features and quality perspective this bike is hard to beat and offers exceptional value for money: - Both seat and handlebars can be adjusted horizontally and vertically so that you can achieve your perfect cycling position - The console shows Watts and the resistance level which is a great training aid - Rear drive bikes are usually a bit easier to keep clean because your sweat doesn't drip onto the flywheel - It's a magnetic resistance bike so there's virtually no maintenance - Pedals can take cycling shoes or normal training shoes - Maximum user weight is nearly 19st which is very high for an indoor cycle - Paintwork is finished to a very high standard which gives a great first impressionWhat's it like to ride? The Gym Gear M.Sport PLus is brilliant to ride. It's very quiet and smooth as a result of the 20kg equivalent flywheel and the belt drive. In fact it feels very similar to the Gym Gear M Sport which has been around for much longer and receives rave reviews from our customers. - The resistance is easy to control via the lever on the frame - 16 levels of resistance is also plenty to find your optimum level. - Because it has magnetic resistance there is no wear, so your training sessions can be repeated time and again without having to compensate for bike wear - Incredibly quiet and smooth - Can withstand really hard training sessions. At high resistance and high speeds the bike is very stableAny niggles? Providing you like the look of the bike it's difficult to find better.Anything else to add? This is an indoor cycle that's very easy to live with. There's no routine maintenance, other than keeping the bike clean. If the drive belt needs adjusting then it's very easy to do but it's something that you won't need to do very often.Overall Impression? An exceptional indoor cycle in terms of features, build quality and ease of maintenance.
Do you have a question about the Gym Gear M Sport Plus - Ex Display?
If you can't find the answer that you're looking for below then please click here and ask us a question. If we're online we'll give you an answer immediately, otherwise we'll try our best to respond on the same working day.
Cycle Specific Questions Q. I want a heavy duty bike that shows Watts on the console. What should I buy? A. We'd suggest a full commercial bike such as the Gym Gear M.Sport Plus. This is designed for heavy use and display Watts on the console in addition to the level of resistance that you're working to.
Q. I've seen a chain driven bike for the same price - why should I buy the belt driven Gym Gear? A. We always recommend buying a belt driven bike. They're quieter, cleaner and require less maintenance. Unless you like covering yourself in oil and frequently maintaining your bike, then avoid a chain bike and buy a belt drive.
Q. Do the pedals take SPD cleats? A. Yes. You can use this bike with cycling shoes.
Q. I read somewhere that this is the bike that you recommend. Can you tell me why? A. We recommend a number of bikes on our site, but we recommend the Gym Gear M.Sport because it's a full commercial bike; it has a belt drive; it has magnetic resistance; the build quality is excellent and it's just about the best indoor cycle that you can get for under £1000.
General Questions Q. Is this bike difficult to assemble? A. No - instructions are included and we cover the build in our review of the bike as well. Just pay particular attention to attaching the pedals correctly.
Q. Can you assemble the bike for me? A. Yes. We can deliver the bike fully assembled. We will pack/wrap the bike for transportation but can't accept liability for any damage that is caused whilst the bike is in transit. Alternatively, we can arrange for a technician to visit your home to build the bike for you at an additional cost (please ask for current prices).
Q. Do I need a mat underneath the bike? A. We recommend that you have a mat underneath your indoor cycle to protect the floor but it's entirely up to you.
Q. Do you sell second hand or refurbished bikes? A. Generally not. Unfortunately it's not cost effective for us to refurbish indoor cycles to a standard that would be in keeping with our reputation. To fully refurbish an indoor cycle, the crank; crank arms; flywheel bearings; drive belt; pedals; seat and handlebars all need to be replaced. In addition, the frame needs to be checked for corrosion and distortion. In doing this work to the correct standard, the price of a fully refurbished indoor bike would be about the same as a new one. It's for this reason that we don't normally offer refurbished or second hand bikes for sale, and we strongly recommend that you fully understand how a bike has been refurbished before buying one.
